FAQs

ABI spreaders aren’t just for horse manure: we spread it all! ABI’s muck spreaders handle all kinds of animal manure and compost at any phase of decomposition.

Yes. Any spreader used on pastures or paddocks requires advanced features that shred, control flow, and evenly spread on the ground. ABI spreaders do all that and more, fitting perfectly into your rotational grazing or pasture rotation routine. One of the best things you can do is spread a light shredded and pulverized manure application to “resting” pastures or paddocks. Do this early on long sunny and dry days to allow it to dry quickly. Allow the pasture area to “rest” for at least a couple of weeks before allowing livestock to graze again, reducing the possibility of parasite exposure.

The duration of time a pasture should rest after the last application depends on the local environment. Hot and moist areas and seasons should “extend” resting periods. A rotational grazing routine provides the best opportunity to spread on recently “rested” portions of pasture land. An eco-balanced pasture or paddock reduces parasites, increases vegetation growth, increases rotation rates, and reduces odor and flies around the farm. ABI’s optional “Fines” or “Pasture” pan is required. For the ultimate in paddock health, spread composted manure.

We always recommend shredding before you spread, avoiding spreading on or near wet areas, and giving your pasture time to rest. For more details and our thoughts on spreading stall picked or composted, when to spread, and how to best spread, check out our Animal Manure Management Guidebook.

Ground driven spreaders are easy to use, work on a variety of towing vehicles, and have enhanced safety features. They’re best for small hobby farms, show stock owners, and small ranchers.

PTO driven spreaders tackle large projects. They’re harder to operate, but offer more capacity and capability for skilled operators.

The size that’s best for you depends on everything from your spreading frequency to how much your livestock produces.

Our Better Way:

Features

ABI spreaders are fully-welded with COR-TEN steel to be tank-tough through and through. Our extremely thick COR-TEN steel provides tremendous longevity without the ridiculous expense of stainless steel. So yes, our spreaders aren’t shiny like your kitchen appliances for good reason: stainless steel is not as structurally sound as COR-TEN. Below we have detailed out why our spreaders are built to outlast the barn; and the competition.

4-Speed Variable Flow Control

Create an Eco-Balanced Pasture The 4-Speed Application Flow Control enables you to control the flow and volume of manure your compact manure spreader applies to the ground. Using the spreader’s front manual levers, adjust the rate of manure fed to the beater bars via the apron web between four different speeds to speed up or slow down your spreading. By controlling the output of manure, users can choose to empty their manure as fast as possible or slowly apply manure to maximize fertilization to specific areas in the pasture. Variable flow control also helps you adjust your spreader to pulverize a broader range of manure types, consistencies, bedding materials, and stages of decomposition without causing damage to your ground driven muck spreader. Improve the eco-balance and growth of your pasture with controlled applications of manure from your ABI compact tractor manure spreader.

Inline Shredding System

Shred Before You Spread What makes ABI’s manure spreaders unique is how each model features a 2-stage inline shred and spread system designed to pulverize manure into fine shreds to help evenly spread fertilizer over the ground. The system includes two beater bars fitted with 32 blades to ensure every bit of manure is thoroughly shredded. Once the manure is fed through the beater bars, the manure fines are evenly distributed in a fine layer over the ground via ten spreading paddles on the back of your small manure spreader. By finely shredding manure before you spread it, more manure is exposed to the sun’s UV rays, helping it break down faster to encourage better pasture growth and reduce the risk of colic, odors, or pests.

Protective Box Liner

An Industrial-Grade Seal to Guard Your Steel Each ABI compact manure spreader box comes standard with an industrial-grade box liner to create a better seal against manure leakage. Our engineers use a special epoxy liner to coat the inside of the spreader box, giving it an impermeable and smooth protective seal that can resist severe corrosion or abrasion from urine-filled manure. Since epoxy liners are often used to protect underground sewage tanks and pipelines, you operate your ground driven dung spreader with ease knowing the spreader box is secured from corrosion due its heavy-duty protective liner.

Lifetime Poly-Lumber Flooring

For Maximum Manure Loading & Towing The bottom flooring of our compact tractor manure spreaders is made of a premium tongue-and-groove polyvinyl lumber. The spreader’s poly-lumber flooring is extremely thick to ensure your spreader can support heavy manure loads, allowing you to load your spreader up to maximum capacity. Better yet, the tongue-and-groove construction of the poly-boards prevents excessive warping, wear, or damage to the apron web. While our poly-lumber flooring is built to last long, ABI also offers a limited lifetime flooring warranty to support customers.

Stainless Steel Apron Web

Rust-Resistant Chains and Slats Assembled using interlocking chains and slats, the apron web ensures your compact manure spreader releases a stable, consistent rate of fertilizer at your desired speed. Better yet, the chains and slats are made from high-quality stainless steel, making the web chemically resistant to corrosion from urine-laced manure. When operating your spreader, the apron web is driven via the advanced ground drive system from the left wheel, causing it to move and push manure towards the back. With the right wheel running the beater bars, the apron web pushes manure out the back, ensuring everything is finely shredded and spread over the soil as you tow.

Commercial-Grade Coating

Protect Components from Extreme Corrosion All components on our muck spreaders get a premium 2-ply commercial-grade coating for additional protection against corrosion. After being sand-blasted to ensure perfect adhesion of the paint, the components are coated in a black gloss acrylic urethane paint (PPG AUE-370) that’s twice as thick as Rust-Oleum which can be easily repaired or touched up during future maintenance. What’s unique about this special finish is how it makes your compact manure spreader impermeable to moisture or animal urine from manure, eliminating the risk of rust forming underneath the finish layer and damaging your spreader.

Advanced Ground Drive System

Drive Power to Multiple Components ABI utilizes an advanced ground drive system to provide power to our compact manure spreaders. The ground drive system works by connecting the wheels of the spreader to operate and drive power to specific components. The right wheel drives the beater bars system that shreds and spreads manure, while the left wheel drives the apron chain in the spreader box which pushes manure towards the beaters and out of the dung spreader. What’s more, the wheels are designed to move in unison, keeping the components at compatible operating speeds while also maximizing traction for your spreader. From tight turns on rough pastures to wet or icy ground, this advanced ground drive system gives you the power to properly spread in almost any condition.

Swing-Away Jack with Wheel Dolly

Quick & Easy Hookup to Small Tow Vehicles The swing-away jack crank makes it easy to hookup or detach an ABI compact manure spreader to any small tow vehicle. It also includes a wheel dolly that can be used to manually maneuver the attachment into a garage, tool shed, barn, or other tight spaces for storage. If your barn lacks pass-through aisles, the swing-away jack with wheel dolly enables you to manually push your dung spreader between paddocks so you can conveniently muck manure directly from the stall to the spreader.

Superior-Quality Craftsmanship & Components

Built in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, by highly skilled craftsmen with decades of small manure spreader building experience, these compact manure spreaders are crafted for daily farm-use conditions and made of the most durable components we know of. Materials such as grade-5 bolts, serviceable greaseable bearings, oil-impregnated bronze bushings, heavy-duty size 60 roller chain (nearly 1″ wide), stainless steel T-Rod apron chain, and hardened sprockets ensure longevity. You can judge a ground driven manure spreader’s materials and components quality by its overall unit weight; the heavier, the better. The ABI compact manure spreader weighs nearly 1/3 more than equivalently sized competitors’ small manure spreaders. Now that is tangible quality you can feel!

Options

Manual End Gate & Shield

Block Off Flying Debris To protect operators and equipment from flying manure, add on the optional manual end gate and shield. By closing off the back of the spreader, the end gate acts as a shield to block you and your tractor from being covered in flying manure or debris. An additional benefit to closing the back of your compact manure spreader is the end gate prevents manure from clogging the beater bars during loading, allowing you to fill your spreader to maximum capacity.

Pasture/ Fines/ Litter Pan

Keep Clumps Out of Your Pasture

Using the optional fines pan, be sure to shred every bit of manure in your compact manure spreader and prevent stray clumps from hitting the ground. Attached directly behind the spreader, the fines pan catches and brings any fallen clumps of manure back into the beaters to be finely shredded. Including a fines pan is especially useful for catching smaller litter produced by poultry. The optional pan also features a release for easy cleaning or replacement.

Well-made, sturdy, good looking machine. Well pleased with the delivery by freight truck. Just the right size for my operation. A Conversation Piece with the neighbors.

Rudy Inchauspe

We are so happy with this spreader. No more worries about what to do with our manur and our yard looks BEAUTIFUL. Our friends wanted to compare with other manufactors after seeing ours they bought ABI. Thank you, and Clinton for the recommendation.

Laurie

Very difficult to get out of shipping crate. Not sure price is justified over the competition but I suppose time will tell. You can get 2 for the price of an ABI.

S. Ward

Awesome spreader! This spreader is built sturdy and built to last. I highly recommend ABI over all of the other brands.

Ellen

Fantastic, so well made. Would recommend highly. 5 stars!

Robin

I have had my spreader for almost 2 years, and I love it. Very well made!

Betty Findley

Easy to run, easy to service, small enough to store during the winter, spreads like a dream. Love it!!

Tony

Have used this all summer and it works just fine. solidly built. so far I have no complaints. purchasing process was easy. delivery was a snap. can’t give a 5 star just yet but if it lasts a long time I will.

I spreader that I can pull behind a 4 wheeler

Joanne, Scottsville NY

The toughest job ever. In a word, OUTSTANDING. Product: We have had a chance to give the manure spreader a serious workout on the toughest pile one could imagine. We have cleared outside pens having manure, hay and heavy moisture. The spreader does a fantastic job tearing this stuff up and dispersing it in the pasture. Support: The spreader arrived well protected on a pallet and with clear instructions for a few steps to finish getting it into working configuration. Calls to ABI are received and answered by knowledgeable people promptly. Great experience all around. You get what you pay for.

Awesome machine! Every year for the past 20 years I have composted the manure from 12 tons of hay, and 2 tons of straw bedding used through the winter, for 3-5 horses and now goats, putting some on the garden and unevenly spreading the rest by dumping it slowly from the tractor bucket. I will still have to compost what I clean out when there is deep snow on the ground, but when conditions are drivable I will be able to spread much of it without composting. I spread that pile Ñ not as huge since it was completely composted Ñ yesterday in a few hours. I donÕt have an ATV or spare tractor, so I spent more time unhooking and hooking back up to use the towing tractor for loading it, and opening and closing the gate to prevent goat escapees, than I did in spreading. It is so easy to attach and unhook Ñ the lightness of the front end makes it easy to nudge into place if you are a little off. The 50 holds 4 of my 24-hp tractor buckets with a little help from a rake to spread/fill it evenly. It is so simple and easy to use. Just move two

Tony

I have owned my ABI manure spreader 2 years. It was a very good investment. My wife and I researched at other manure spreaders and decided on ABI. A quality made well machine, well worth the money.

Steven Squellati

I bought a 65 spreader last December and the spreader is all tat ABI says it is . What a great product.
